2016 PA Arts & Culture Legislative Visits Day - May 17, 2016

On Tuesday, May 17, 2016 arts & culture advocates from across the Commonwealth met at the State Capitol in Harrisburg to share, with their legislators, their priorities for the FY 2016-17 State Budget.   In total, we met with over 75 legislative offices and with the Office of the First Lady.  Citizens for the Arts in PA legislative priorities include:

 

LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR FY 2016-17

  • Increase Grants to the Arts by $1 million bringing the total appropriation to $10.59 million

  • Lift caps on both the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Film Tax Programs

  • Develop legislation for Creative Districts using, as building blocks, current legislation - HB 1490 and HB 1193

  • Insure that every student has access to quality education that includes art and music instruction provided by a certified educator

  • Reestablish the Governor's School for the Arts

  • Increase funding for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) government operating support to $22 million and maintain grant support for cultural and historical support at $2 million  

  • If not already, become a member of the PA Legislative Arts & Culture Caucus
