The Pennsylvania General Assembly passed the Budget Bill (HB 1286) that includes a $15.225 million appropriation for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) grants to arts organizations earlier this week. Governor Edward G. Rendell signed the bill into law on July 17, 2007. The PCA saw no increase in its appropriation over last year. Thank you to all who took the time to make contact with members of the General Assembly asking them to consider increasing the PCA appropriation to $15.275 million. Now is the time to take hold of the opportunity to develop a strong relationship with your legislative members. Invite them to your gallery openings, opening night of a performance, arts festivals in your area, etc. Ask them to be a guest speaker at a membership function or to write an article for your newsletter. Let them see, firsthand, what a positive affect the arts have in your community. Don't hesitate, give your legislator's district office a call today!
If you are interested in having your organization's events posted on the Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania's Calendar of Events webpage, contact Jenny Hershour. She will send you instructions on how to access the calendar so you can post the event. The Pennsylvania General Assembly also passed a bill that gives filmmakers a tax credit for spending over 60 percent of their budget for the movie in Pennsylvania.
Citizens for the Arts in PA has recently released The Arts & Economic Prosperity III - Pennsylvania. The study highlights the economic impact that the arts make in Pennsylvania's communities. The study may be downloaded from the CFA/PA website.
